New Machinery
Since expanding into our new facility, United Gear has added 6 new gear shapers to our shop floor. Five of these machines are brand new, rebuilt CNC gear shapers using the latest FANUC controllers.
Our new Fellows MS300 is one of our most heavily used machines. With an adjustable saddle, long stroke and wide swing the MS300 is able to reach deep internals and otherwise hard to cut parts. We were thrilled when Bourn and Koch approached us with a second machine. It was completely rebuilt and retrofitted with new FANUC controllers. In the above photo you can see it being installed next to its sister machine. In the 5 months it has been in service, we have put it to the test running hundreds of parts.
We have two completely rebuilt 10-4′s that came into service in late June 2020 when the new shop was up and running. One was customized with an additional 24 inches of raise allowing us to hold large shafts in that machine while providing precision splines. Both are fit with FANUC 0i-MF controllers and can produce AGMA 11 splines without grinding.
One of the coolest machines we have added is a customized 20-6. The previous owner had installed hydraulic lifts into the machine which allow the head to raise 16 inches from the base. With this one-of-a-kind feature, we can increase the table swing from 20 to almost 45 inches. We had the entire machine recontrolled with a FANUC 0i-MF control and had new servo motors and pumps installed as well. A second 20-6 was commissioned and went into service in January of 2021.
The last new machine we added was a new to us 36-6. Our original 36-6 Gear shaper has been a work horse at United Gear for the past two decades. When the opportunity arose to pick up a second machine, we jumped. While it may not look as fancy as a new CNC, it can produce AGMA 10 splines and has a large capacity!
